Join Asata Reid and her assistant as they explore the terrific tomato! She'll share simple steps for a delicious salsa that kids will love!

Bonus: we've added the recipe below... Small Bites Adventure Club's EASY Summer Salsa Fresca

1 Green onion | 1/2 cup Cilantro leaves | 1 Lime or lemon | 1 pint Salad tomatoes | 1/2 tsp. Kosher salt | Tortilla chips ((optional: 1/2 tsp. Smoked paprika, 1/2 tsp. Onion powder, 1/2 tsp. Garlic powder, 1/2 tsp. Ground cumin, 1 Sweet pepper))

  1. Using scissors, cut green onions into small pieces.

  2. Discard roots. (or place in a little water and regrow!)

  3. Pick cilantro leaves from the stems. Discard stems. Cut or tear cilantro into small pieces and place in a bowl.

  4. Roll and press lime to make it easier to squeeze.

  5. Cut lime in half. Squeeze lime juice into a bowl.

  6. Add tomatoes and salt to the bowl. (optional: Add chopped sweet pepper, green onion, cilantro, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, cumin) Stir!

  7. Serve salsa with tortilla chips and enjoy!

Veggie Ready

This 5-month (Fall/ Spring) or 1–5-week (Summer) program will empower educators to lead their 4-7-year-old students through hands-on food education activities. The goal is to graduate “Veggie Ready” students who are prepared to be adventurous eaters for life.

Time required for Veggie Ready Program: 1-2 hours/month for 5 months (Fall/ Spring) or ~5-10 hours (Summer)

  • Resources included: Printed materials (step-by-step recipe instructions, stickers, bonus printables), digital tools and videos, shelf-stable food, fresh food delivered through Instacart (optional)

To participate programs must:

  • Have 4–7-year-olds enrolled 

  • Participate in 1-hour live onboarding at the beginning of the program

  • Have at least 1 teacher that is willing to lead hands-on food education activity for 1 hour each month. 

  • Ability to receive and respond to email 

  • Take short monthly surveys: Pre-activity, Post activity, monthly check in surveys
