Jenna Says, “Let’s pretend!”

Student Participation:

  • There are many opportunities for movement while reading this story. Students can pretend that they are lettuce plants with their roots (feet) in the ground and their leaves (hands) stretching towards the sunlight and show their different plant parts and how they grow.

  • When new leafy greens are introduced, students can show a silent thumbs up or thumbs down to express if they have tasted those different leafy greens before.

  • Use green and purple tissue paper and brown construction paper to make lettuce growing on the ground

Who doesn’t love a mystery bag?!

One way to introduce a new food is to hide it in a bag — a mystery bag!

Ask students to describe how it feels. (no peeking!)
